April 2, 1942 - August 14, 2023

On Monday, August 14, 2023, Hiep Nguyen, loving husband and father of two chilfren, passed away peacefully at the age of 81. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.

Born April 2, 1942, in Vietnam to Mau Van Nguyen and Hao Thi Nguyen, Hiep was a graduate of the Air Force Academy (Class 63D) in Vietnam,  a Squadron Commander and decorated Vietnam War veteran in the South Vietnamese Air Force before immigrating to the United Sates (Utah) in 1975. His passion for flying led him to earn a degree from Utah Sate University in 1982 to become an Aeronautical Engineer, while supporting his family. He later worked at the Internal Revenue Service where he would go on to retire after 29 years in the fall 2022.

He was know for his kindness, compassion, strong work ethic,  dedication to family, and support in the local Vietnamese community. He often volunteered, led events, sat on numerous boards, and actively promoted the growth and enlightenment of Vietnamese cultures and customs wherever he could.

Hiep is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Chuong Nguyen, and their children, Kenneth Kiet Nguyen (Kym), Timothy Thi Nguyen, and two grandchildren (Kaylyn and Kensie). He also survived by his brothers Duong (Nhi) Nguyen and Nhiem (Ut) Nguyen along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Hiep was preceded in death by his parents and brother Hai Nguyen (My).

There will be a public viewing on Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah, Cremation services will be held at 2:30 PM.
